Epic's newest
instrumental team claims Dunn, North Carolina as its home. The members
went to school there, and later in Portsmouth, Va. Their mother sang
in church so the brothers, Link, Doug and Vernon, were instilled with music
at an early age.
The group's first
professional jobs were in high school, where it entertained at dances and
school affairs. When it moved to Virginia, the group was hired for
nightclub work, including several stints at Virginia Beach.
From here the Wrays
moved on to Washington DC, continuing their work in several clubs in the
nation's capital. Here the ball really started rolling. A talent
scout heard Vernon sing and signed him to a recording contract in
Philadelphia. Eventually, he was backed by his brother Link on the
guitar while he sang, and the duo caught the attention of an agent who
suggested that the brothers record as a pair. Next step was the
joining of the Wrays by Doug, the third brother, who is the drummer for the
group. The last addition was Shorty Horton who hails from Portsmouth,
and plays the electric bass fiddle. Shorty has now been with the
Wray's
for over five years.
