I got an eMail
from a very nice lady this month. She mentioned that her dad used to
talk about "Lucky and Link Wray" who he met while in the service,
stationed in Washington DC. She had no idea who "Lucky and
Link" were until she found this website. She then went on to
mention that she may have a few pics around the house somewhere....
A week later she
sent this - probably the rarest press pic of the Wray Brothers. They
came to DC in mid-1955. Ben Adleman released the Kay Records EP in
1956. Shortly thereafter Link was diagnosed with TB and Lucky became
Ray, and moved on to record his Cameo sides.
I think you'll
agree these are two of the coolest pics of Link and Lucky. Did you
notice that Link's shirt has chain "links" and Lucky's shirt has
"lucky" horseshoes embrodered on them?
My guess is that
these pictures were printed during the first year (maybe even the first 6
months) after the Wray's moved to Washington DC. Maybe a thousand - at
most - were printed. How many are left now?
The lady who
originally eMailed remembers an autographed picture in her dad's collection
as well. Can't wait to see that one!
